Word from the President

Imagine a new world!

We celebrate the renewal and conscience found in our collaborations in Quebec. We have helped shape the countries of the Western Hemisphere and been able to innovate by making use of our talents. From the soldier to the writer, the pilot to the athlete, the journalist to the fashion designer, the businessperson to the reverend, we've had a major role to play, whereas we used to have trouble imagining that a Black person could contribute so much to North America. Generation after generation, people have wanted even more opportunities to grow and aspire to an equal standard of living.

We remember the lasting moments of 2011 and salute the City of Montreal for having recognized the savagery of the transatlantic slave trade and for petitioning other major Canadian cities to do the same.

We should no longer let the days go by without being a force socially, economically and in our families. Richard Pierpoint's loyalists are proof that action can bring about change, having fought in the war of 1812, at a time when Blacks were still hunted down across enemy lines. All that's left is to inspire ourselves by this story in which we moved the Americas forward and, above all, were able to take our rightful places.

This year, we've chosen the theme of "Imagine a New World". The imaginary and dreams are often sparks that lead to constructive change. So, together, let us imagine a world without barriers, injustice, hypocrisy or indifference towards humanity. Let us imagine a world where humanity will have understood the social and historical errors of the past and will work together to improve things for one and all. Let us imagine a world which seeks to transcend flags, the symbols of pride of every country, and a world which asserts the dignity and the equality of all of its inhabitants.

Thank you,
